The production concept developed by the director viewed the characters’ fears of the environment as the major factor that allowed for the mood of hysteria. The setting reinforced how fears are intensified in an inflexible environment. Recognizing the transition from night to day as a major metaphor in this play I based the lighting on naturalistic ideas. The color of the light on the cyclorama and the actors was always naturalistic. However, to incorporate the fear theme and unify the lighting with the setting I used low angle light. The unnatural feeling of low angle light provided the scenes with an intense edge while the color choices kept the time and location unambiguous.
